2012 is both Year of the Farmer and National Year of Reading. One Farm Day, via the NSW Writer in Residence program, brings these two initiatives together with a series of stories from and about life beyond the farm gate. From shearers to fruit pickers and beekeepers; we will visit men and women working in all kinds of farming jobs across NSW and tell the story of their farming day. Highs, lows, mud, dust and all. A new story will be released each week and we will also be hosting workshops to help people tell their own stories.
About the NSW writer in residence
Sophie Hansen is a primary producer and writer with a background in food and magazine journalism. She lives on a deer farm just out of Orange with her husband Tim and two small children. Since studying journalism at the University of Canberra in the mid-nineties, Sophie has worked for some of Australia’s top magazines and websites, and also spent some years in Italy working for the Slow Food movement’s editorial house. She continues to freelance from the farm and also writes a blog called Local is Lovely; a collection of recipes, stories and resources for people who love farmers and eating locally. Because it's lovely.
